ABOUT Kilmore Parish Journal
Our preparation for the future carries our hope that the journal will pass to provident hands and continue in the spirit which has made fifty-four appearances. Little did those first committee members realise what they had initiated! As the world moves into a digital age our current committee have moved in tandem and initiated the digitization of all the past editions and future journals which will be published in hard copy and digitised also in the succeeding year when added to this website. As with The Lake in Bridgetown there are always lacunae but, captured as faithfully as possible in these pages, the human side of Kilmore is evident. In this age when every social media post will be preserved forever it appears fitting that current social life in our parish should be as available to future generations. The launch of a dedicated website will enable people near and far to access and download past editions; this is facilitated by the provision of an index to the extensive contents of the full corpus dauntlessly prepared by Seamus O’Keeffe. The heads of this index encapsulate the occurrences, culture and pastimes recorded in the journal; these are Contents, Covers, General, Maritime, Persons, Photos, Places, Songs and Verses and Sport which direct you to the year and page where your sought material is to be found. More than half a century of lived life here in Kilmore is available to all. As always, this achievement redounds not solely to the credit of the many laudable committee members, whose names are given hereunder, but also vitally to the many contributors of material over the years, in form of articles, activities, memoirs, occasions and creative works. The secret of KPJ’s success lies in that it is generated by and for the people of Kilmore; it is your magazine, long may both prosper!
